The U.S. Marshals Museum, a nationally scoped project, is being made a reality by strong and generous leadership from our national, regional, and local communities. While the U.S. Marshals Museum is specifically dedicated to honoring a federal law enforcement agency, the Museum is not federally funded. Requiring an investment of approximately $50 million dollars, this project is being financed almost entirely by the generosity of foundations, businesses, and individual donors. The Museum has also been supported in-part by local and state government entities. Donating to the U.S. Marshals Museum can provide a unique opportunity for you, your family, your business, or organization to leave a lasting legacy. Gifts may be deducted on federal income tax returns. These gifts may include such items as cash, publicly traded and/or closely held securities, tangible personal property, real estate, insurance, and life income gifts. Additionally, gifting appreciated property may provide significant benefits to the donor.

The collection of the U.S. Marshals Museum currently includes more than 1,000 treasured items – and continues to grow. Our archives focus solely on items directly involved with the history of the U.S. Marshals or the performance of their duties. Collected historical objects range widely from guns and badges to wanted posters and oaths of office. When our Museum doors open, you’ll be able to see such prized items as the pocket watch of Bass Reeves, a legendary man who escaped slavery, spent time with Native Americans, then served as a U.S. Marshal. You’ll also discover a miniature portrait of Marshal Robert Forsyth (D/GA). This Charles Willson Peale painting is the only known portrait of Forsyth. Forsyth was among the first U.S. Marshals appointed by President George Washington after the creation of the post in 1789, and the first United States Marshal to be killed in the line of duty in 1794. These are just two of the many treasurers that will be on exhibit.

How To Donate To The Collection: Please keep in mind that, while we respect the broad history of our nation, our Museum only accepts items directly involved with the history of the U.S. Marshals or the performance of their duties. Contact our Museum Curator, David Kennedy prior to bringing your items.

When our Museum opens, there will be numerous volunteer opportunities such as lobby greeters, tour group guides, educational programming participants, and student outreach program assistants. Volunteer opportunities will be announced prior to our opening, so you are encouraged to stay in touch with our Museum by registering for our newsletters.

The Mary Carleton and Robert A. Young III Building and Samuel M. Sicard Hall of Honor are set to be dedicated on September 24, 2019 – the 230th anniversary of the U.S. Marshals Service.
